The First Principle Of Reiki
The first principle of Reiki states, namely today do not worry. This phrase is meaningful when practicing Reiki, or in day to day living. There are several purposes behind the origins of and using this phrase as the first principle for Reiki. This principle has expanded to be life a philosophy for people who practice Reiki.

Reiki is a Japanese system of healing.  Reiki means "Universal Energy" from rei meaning universal or spiritual and ki meaning energy or life force. Reiki is the process of channeling Universal Energy through oneself and into some one or something else.

In a Reiki treatment the practitioner asks the patient to lie down, usually on a massage table (some prefer wooden), and relax.  It is done fully clothed with the patient wearing loose, comfortable clothing. The reiki practitioner may tune in to enter a calm or meditative state of mind and mentally prepare for the treatment, which is usually carried out without much talking.

The treatment is done with the practitioner either placing their hands (magnetic) on the recipient in various positions or using a non-touching technique (radiant), where the hands are held a few centimetres away from the recipient's body, for some or all of the positions. The positions may be held for several minutes usually around the head, the front and back of the torso, and sometimes on the legs.  Sensations felt by the patient range from cold, heat or tingling, to feel nothing at all.  There is usually a feeling of deep relaxation though.
