So why is the star rating so confusing?  I have stayed in 3 star hotels that were far better than 4 1/2 star hotels I have stayed in.  To make matters worse owners are now making their own star ratings rather than using an industry body - why? - because it costs quite a bit to get an official star rating.  My experience is to pick a hotel or accommodation provider on what they offer.  Does the room look good? Are the facilities new or run down? What is on offer or included in the price?  Use the stars but only as a starting point.  That way you shouldn't be disappointed.
