Is there any difference between a Facial Massage and a Beauty Facial?

One of the fastest growing spa therapies I have seen promoted is facial massage.  What is it and why would I choose it over a normal beauty facial?

Facial massage is aimed primarily at the muscles of the face and uses a lot more hands on techniques than a beauty facial.  Facial massage is usually performed by a massage therapist rather than a beauty therapist and is aimed at releasing tension in the facial muscles, neck and scalp areas to improve circulation, lymphatic flow and relax connective tissue.

So what does it involve?

As the focus is to relax and release tension in the face, neck and scalp areas the therapist uses a variety of gentle movements, usually including kneading, stroking and gentle compression techniques.  A variety of oil, creams, essential oils and even clays may be used in combination with the various techniques to enhance the treatment.

Facial massage is probably one of the most relaxing techniques available.  A 30 to 45 minute facial massage very often puts the client to sleep - combine this with a full body massage and you will feel on cloud nine
