There not cheap compared to a portable table, but if you are going to do massage for a living they are a necessity. The most important thing during a massage is not the patient it is the therapist, injure yourself and you can't help the person on the table. As you know the first rule of First Aid is to make sure your environment is safe before attending to the injured person, the same goes for massage.

People come in all shapes and sizes and yet many massage therapists use the same height table for everyone. This can put extra strain on your back, neck and arms, and lets be honest it's hard enough without adding to the work. An electric table allows the therapist to adjust the table to suit the patient, the therapist and their technique of choice. If you vary your styles during a treatment it allows you to instantly adjust the table. An example would be longitudinal gliding of the back then lowering the table to finish with Shiatsu points.

The cost of an electric lift massage tables in the past was prohibitive. Fortunately there are a lot more manufacturers to choose from now, so prices have fallen dramatically. The table I bought 3 years ago was a budget model for around $ 2,000 and it hasn't missed a beat in the time I have had it, is still very quiet and smooth and my patients still comment on how comfortable it is.

Most therapists will need a portable to learn on or as a backup. Buy one first until you are sure this is the full time career for you – if it is do your body a favor and get an electric table. The table I mentioned still hasn't gone up in price, although you can spend up to $ 6,000 on a table depending on your needs. Leasing starts from around $ 20.00 a week so you don't have to go broke just to look after your back.
